ปี 2012 ฟอร์ดจะมีเครื่อง 1.0L หรือจะเป็น Eco Car !!!! Ford EcoBoost 1.0L three-cylinder launched in Germany
Ford engineers in the UK have developed an all-new 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. This is Ford’s smallest engine and is set to offer superior fuel economy and low emissions. The unit will be available in Europe from early 2012 in the new Ford Focus.
Ford CEO Allan Mulally revealed the new engine yesterday at the official launch in Cologne, Germany. Mulally believes the new engine will be one of Ford’s most significant engines of the modern day:
“The new 1.0-litre EcoBoost and our entire family of EcoBoost engines represent technology breakthroughs that deliver power, fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions through turbocharging and direct injection. These engines are delivering the fuel-efficient vehicles customers want and value.”
The new Ford 1.0-litre EcoBoost will be available in two power levels: a 92kW version with an emissions rating of 114g/km CO2 and a 74kW version with emissions of just 109g/km CO2 . The more powerful unit will produce 170Nm of torque, and 200Nm on overboost.
Production of the engine will initially take place at a new engine plant in Cologne, and then once the unit is introduced into more markets around the world, production will expand to facilities in Craiova, Romania. Capacity is expected to exceed 700,000 units per year, and then later, 1.5 million units.
Ford says the new compact engine, which is said to fit inside the shape of a sheet of A4 paper, will eventually become available in the Ford Focus and the Ford Focus-based B-MAX, C-MAX and Grand C-MAX. Possible average fuel consumption figures are yet to be finalised.
Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO of Ford Europe also spoke about the new engine, saying,
“The new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is a true collaboration from start to finish, with expertise from Ford specialists across Europe leveraged in designing both the engine and the cutting-edge facility in which it will be produced.
“This will be reflected in the class-leading European CO2 emissions of the new 1.0-litre EcoBoost Ford Focus when it debuts in early 2012; low emissions that will be achieved alongside the spirited and refined performance that customers expect from Ford.”
CarAdvice has contacted Ford Australia in regards to a possible future inclusion of the engine into the local line-up. We will update the story when we hear more.
Ford Australia said in July that it wasn’t sure if there was local demand for such a small engine. What do you think? Have times changed? Would you buy one? Let us know the comments section below.
